Back to the drawing board future

Am I the only one thinking the modern post-Premier Sky League obsession with statistics is getting out of hand? Or is this new feature on the Guardian website going to evaporate countless working hours from my desktop? Yup, probably the latter … and it is fun just to see graphically just how few shots Darren bent makes in any given match.

QPR appoint Sousa

Football: QPR have appointed former Portugal international Paolo Sousa as their new manager 

Has to be an improvement on Dowie. If he takes to English football as readily as his former boss Scolari, then I’ll be happy – but part of me wouldn’t be surprised to see him eventually end up at that other Rich West London club, especially if Briatore keeps on insisting on picking the team!

Ah, this article in The Gaurdian about Paul Willetts’ new book Teenage Flicks brings back memories of epic Subbuteo battles played out on my bedroom floor. Most memorable was the fully-fledged World Cup our office staged during the idle weeks of the national journalists’ strike in 1978. If memory serves me right, Wales beat Brazil in the final … after the Brazilian  goalkeeper got trodden on.
