Bryan bows out in style

Posted: April 4, 2008 in Bermuda, football, media

I missed it but I hear veteran newsman Bryan Darby bowed out of the local media in style last week. Signing off, he assured VSB listeners that Bermuda’s soccer team were out of the World Cup, having drawn 0-0 in Cayman. Unfortunately, Bryan had been taking the news from the ESPN site which didn’t update the score until the end of the game. Bermuda won 3-1 to win 4-2 on aggregate and earn a tie with the Soca Warriors of Trinidad & Tobago.

Enjoy your retirement in Canada, Darbs – we will miss you. The last of a generation of legendary journo rogues and gentleman.

Barnsley 1, Chelsea 0 … after winning at Anfield it almost couldn’t get any better. Heroic performance all round, etc. I’m all for giving the Tykes the Cup now. It can only be downhill from here. You just know they’ll never be able to get it up for Cardiff or Bristol Rovers in the semis and it will all end in tears. My money’s on ‘Arry’s Pompey.

Sun sports new blog

You read it here first … the Bermuda Sun has launched a fine new sports blog, TalkSport. Sports writer James Whittaker told me: “There seems to be a real appetite for talking about sports in Bermuda right now. There’s already a ton of blogs for news junkies and we wanted to launch a similar kind of forum for sports fans. As well as blogs from our writers we hope to include stuff from our columnists like Lionel Cann and Fred Barritt and guest bloggers such as yourself and Nick Jones.”

Good luck, lads – and welcome to the Bermuda blogosphere!
