my top ten world cup goals

Posted: July 10, 2010 in Uncategorized

I was lucky enough to see some cracking goals during my trip to South Africa. Here are my personal favourites from those I witnessed live. Apologies for some of the YouTube video quality – you can view all of them in better quality on the FIFA site:

1. David Villa (Spain v Honduras) – sublime control and finish.

2. Carlos Tevez (Argentina v Mexico) – I have never seen a ball hit with as much power as this.

3. Fabio Quagliarella (Italy v Slovakia) – If the Italians hadn’t lost, this clever chip would have been one of the goals of the tournament.

4. Luis Fabiano (Brazil v Chile) – brilliantly worked by Robinho and Kaka, clinically finished by Fabiano

5. Robinho (Brazil v Chile) – wonderful run by Ramires did all the work for Robinho

6. Javier Hernandez (Mexico v Argentina) – Man United fans will be hoping “Chicharito” scores a few of these next season

7. David Villa (Spain v Chile) – popping the ball first-time into an empty net from 40 yards is easy when you’re as quick-thinking and deadly as David Villa.

8. Asamoah Gyan (Ghana v USA) – spectacular finish to a great game in Rustenburg.

9. Arne Friedrich (Germany v Argentina) – from the moment Schweinsteiger started his run, you just knew this was going in.

10. Robert Vittek (Slovakia v Italy) – his second owed much to the clever thinking of Hamsik in wrong-footing the Italian defence.
