11. Arctic Monkeys – A.M.

They lost me for two dark and self-indulgent albums but with A.M. the Arctic Monkeys produced their best set of songs in years. Singer-songwriter Alex Turner was back on acerbic form (Why Do You Only Call Me When You’re High?) and they’ve never sounded better as a band, whether playing it moody (Mad Sounds) or with a touch of glam-rock swagger (Do I Wanna Know?). Their take on 70s punk poet John Cooper Clarke’s I Wanna Be Yours was wonderful.
