I am not techie enough to understand all the ins and outs of the new HTML 5 web technology that Apple, amongst others, believe will herald the demise of Flash. But this amazing site, developed by Google with the band Arcade Fire, for its Chrome browser, is an astonishing example of what it can do.

Go to and enter the address of where you grew up and The Wilderness Machine, using Google Maps and Street View will magically transport you there via several screens that pop up and move around the screen, all set to Arcade Fire’s song “We Used To Wait” from their new Suburbs album.

Astonishing stuff.

Google’s YouTube plans Apple ITV spoiler | Broadband TV News.

The more competition the merrier! I can smell the decay of overpriced, poor service cable TV in the air already.  Hopefully Google You Tube will offer up more than just Hollywood fare, though. iTunes has a growing selection of documentaries and channels but will hopefully be adding more independent content in the future.

Make Free Calls in Gmail With Google Voice.

Love this! Unless you have a US number, it’s been tricky to use Google Voice from Bermuda. But this morning look what popped up in my GMail … an “Call Phone” link and a pop-up invitation to use Google Voice from right within my GMail. Tried it out – worked brilliantly calling my mum in the UK for 2 cents a minute – on a par with Skype rates.

Following on from my recent post about the relaunched Bermuda Network News‘ poor content so far, was amused to see this Google ad trumpeting BNN as “Bermuda’s Most Trusted News Source”.  Er, says who and since when? Somebody is getting a little carried away, methinks, for a site that is only about 10 days old …

Google and HTC Working On a Chrome OS Tablet – Googletablet – Gizmodo.

Well this could be interesting. Google and HTC are rumoured to be working on a touch screen tablet device running on Chrome OS.

Google Sidewiki

Interesting new release from Google. Google Sidewiki allows you to contribute helpful information next to any webpage. Google Sidewiki appears as a browser sidebar, where you can read and write entries along the side of the page. The idea, says Google, is enable people to take advantage of stuff other eople have found while looking for the same infromation as you. Sidewiki is released as part of Google Toolbar for Firefox and Internet Explorer. Chrome and other browser versions to follow.
