Google Mail service has already been restored for some users, and we expect a resolution for all users in the near future. Please note this time frame is an estimate and may change.
I’m a big fan of cloud computing and rely on it for much of my business but situations like this are a reminder that we are still some way from being able to depend on it completely. Particularly worrying is the length of time Google seem to have taken to acknowledge it and respond. Fortunately, I didn’t cancel that .Mac/Me account and have Twitter and Facebook as message stop-gaps!
UPDATE: Everything back to normal as of 3pm Bda time.
If you’re a BBC fan but not resident in the UK, you’ll no doubt have been long frustrated at not being able to use the BBC’s brilliant iPlayer, which allows you to watch any BBC content from the last seven days as often as you want. Sure, there are complicated geeky ways of setting up proxy this and that but now My Private Network makes it really easy. It sets up a virtual private network tunnel that allows you not only unlimited access to iPlayer but also on-demand video and live TV content from other UK channels such as ITV, Channel Four, and Five. It costs about $8 a month but well worth it if you want to see good quality UK TV. It’s available for Windows, Mac and Linux and literally takes about 10 seconds to set up. You’ll never have to sit through those out of date BBC America re-runs again.
