Hallelujah!

President-Elect Barack Obama … it still sounds scarcely believable. The nation that in its stupidity voted in Dubya, not once but twice, finally came to its senses and in doing so created history. It was a privilege to watch this historic moment for America, minorities, and the world when an African-American who was unknown four years ago has achieved a truly astonishing political feat. The audacity of hope indeed. He will not and can never be a perfect President or fulfill the unrealistic expectations people will have of him. But I hope he restores much-needed dignity and integrity to the United States and the office of President. In my lifetime I have never been more optimistic about an American presidency. Heather Nova - The Jasmine Flower

Bermuda’s wonderful singer-songwriter Heather Nova finally has a new album out. The Jasmine Flower, recorded at home in Bermuda – all on solar power, apparently – and is a stripped-down production of just Heather, guitar, a few strings and another batch of (at first listen) beautiful songs, soulfully sung and played. You can download the album direct from her website for about $15. That gorgeous cover, by the way, was taken by my friend and very talented Bermudian photographer Sacha Blackburne.
