Doing the White thing

Stuff White People Like

Just came across this site, courtesy of a mention on MacBreak Weekly. It’s an hilarious piss-take of politically-correct whites written by Canadian writer Christian Lander – or as he puts it: “This is a scientific approach to highlight and explain stuff white people like. They are pretty predictable.”

Sample: “White people will frequently show up to various events 15- 35 minutes early for no reason at all.”

And: “If a white person really, REALLY, doesn’t like something or someone, he or she may angrily say something to the effect of, “This is exactly the same kind of thing that Hitler used to do!” accompanied by varying levels of profanity based on blood-alcohol content.”

The blog has been so successful that there’s now a book, released this week. You can find out more about Lander in this LA Times piece.

If and when I finally get my mitts on a 3G iPhone, chances are I’m going to check out Ziphone to unlock it. Not only does it come highly recommended by friends both in the UK and Canada and  trusted tech sources, but Zibri, the man behind it, claims to have already unlocked a 3G iPhone – and it isn’t even released until July 11!  Time will tell if this is the case, but here are the screenshots from his blog as proof.

PicLens brings web alive

PicLens | Immersive Views Across the Web

Very impressed with PicLens, a new Firefox plug-in I picked up from a recent TWIT podcast. Basically it brings an iTunes/Apple TV-style menu and coverflow to any images and video on the web. In fact, you can search out pretty much anything – news, sport, tech, movies, music – using its graphic “3D  search” and then just click and play the clip. It works with YouTube, Amazon, Google, Flickr, Facebook and a bunch of other sites. It’s produced by CoolIris and you can download it free for Firefox 2 and 3 (Mac and Windows), Internet Explorer and Safari. Very cool – well worth trying out.
