I want my iPhone now!

iCall App Enables GSM to WiFi / VoIP Switching On The iPhone | WSI Bermuda Blog

As if my technolust for a 3G iPhone wasn’t enough, WSI Bermuda has news of a cool new app from Skype-type company iCall coming to the new Apple app store that will apparently let you switch seamlessly between VOIP over WiFi and regular cell calls. Can a killer Skype app be far behind?

No news yet, though of anyone in Bermuda being able to sell and support the iPhone (although Canada is due to finally get legal iPhones come the 3G release on July 11, but Canucks are far from happy about some of the rumoured data plans).

And good luck finding a free public wi-fi spot in Bermuda to use something like iCall. Bermuda is still woefully lacking in this area –  Common Ground on Chancery Lane in Hamilton is the only cafe I know that has it (please feel free correct me if I’m wrong on this). For a so-called connected business centre like Bermuda, it’s shameful.

Anyway back to the iPhone, if you want to drool a little more, check out the latest guided tour on Apple.com. I WANT ONE NOW!!! I’m loathe to buy an unlocked iPhone but if something doesn’t give this year, I may have to take the plunge. Uncle Elvis gets mad

My good friend and fellow blogger Mike (Uncle Elvis) Hind is generally a mild-mannered dude but the worsening situation in Zimbabwe – which he and his family has close ties to through his Dad Dusty’s African art gallery – has got him rightfully riled up. He’s produced a couple of cracking political strips in recent days on his excellent blog The Devil Island.  Anger brings out the best in the boy, methinks. Good to see him in such biting form.

If you have any doubts about the insane and cruel Robert Mugabe, follow Mike’s links to some really disturbing images of election violence (warning: these are not for the squeamish). At least it seems the African Union and the European Union are finally standing up to the bastard – although it all seems too little too late to save Zimbabwe from a complete and tragic implosion.

[There should be a Flash image here but for some reason it’s not working – click on any of the links above or below and you’ll get the picture, so to speak …]

I’ve been busy adding bits and pieces to our family tree at Geni.com in recent months. It’s a great free site that’s easy to use and – more important – makes it easy for other family members to get involved and add their nuggets of family history. Ours is still very much a work in progress but hopefully it will provide a permanent record for our kids and descendants.
