Google made my day when it reently made its GMail application available offline. Now it has taken the next logical step and made its web-based Calendar available offline. Long overdue and handy if you’re travelling and don’t have continuous internet access. Now you can read downloaded messages and draft replies that will sync up the moment you’re connected.
So much for my new Arriva iPodShuffle earphones! The day after they arrived, Apple went and updated the Shuffle with an even tinier 4GB model with a new VoiceOver feature that “speaks” your song titles, playlists, etc. – given the Shuffle’s lack of a screen, this should make navigating much easier. The volume and other controls are now on the earbud cord which is handy but at the moment precludes using anything like the practical Arriva buds, which I love.
During my recent trip to Telluride, I saw several skiers and boarders with these neat little earphones for the iPod shuffle. At the top of one mountain I was asking one skier where he got them and he turned out to be Ben, the founder of the company Arriva (not to be confused with the UK bus company!) which was actually based in Telluride itself. The earphones come in black or white and are a comfortable option to a chunky Bluetooth set or all those wires when you’re walking, running or skiing. My order arrived this week and they’re just excellent – well worth the $35. They fit second and third generation Shuffles and you can get them from Arriva direct or from Amazon.
