Not sure how much stuff I’ll put up today as some us are self-employed and do have to earn a crust! But in the meantime, it looks as though the Bermuda Sun has been quick off the mark with pics and reports from around the constituencies posted before midday. There is also a live link to VSB radio coverage for later on in the day. When I checked The Royal Gazette at 1 p.m., they hadn’t posted a single election day story and the RSS feed was silent.[Update: a short report posted at 2:49pm] You can also follow the official election results, count-by-count at the Parliamentary Registry site which can be found here. There’s also streaming audio of VSB’s coverage here which you can pipe to iTunes, Windows Media Player, Real Player, WinAMP or VLN.
If you use QuickBooks on your Mac, beware before running the latest update. According to this report on CNet, it could wipe out your data:
If you’re a user of Intuit’s QuickBooks accounting software for small businesses on your Mac, and you haven’t installed an update pushed to users over the weekend, don’t.The update caused several Mac users to lose data from their Desktop folders, infuriating many who were hoping to close their books this week for 2007, only to lose valuable purchase orders and spreadsheets. This problem doesn’t appear to affect those using QuickBooks on Windows PCs, but it does appear to be causing problems for both Tiger and Leopard users. The update apparently came along with a promptthat read, “there is not enough space to install.” If you clicked yes, knowing that your hard drive wasn’t even close to full, you could have found yourself with lost data, once you rebooted after installing the update.Intuit is recommending that you NOT install the update under any circumstances if you haven’t already. If you close QuickBooks and then open it again, the company says the software should no longer prompt you to install the update. Intuit said it has corrected the issue on its servers so that the update prompt won’t be issued again.
If you’re having issues, you might want to check out QuickBooks Online, which I use for my business. It’s about $400 a year but you get automatic updates, your data is always available online and multiple people in your company can access it (with the right clearance, of course). You can also import it to QB software on your machine. The major drawback is that the online version won’t work on Macs unless you’re running Windows on your machine via Parallels or something similar.
The waiting is almost over – how will Bermuda vote tomorrow? Most people I’ve spoken to – not a scientific study by any means but includes a mix of black, white, PLP and UBP – agree on one thing: it will be closer than 2003. I agree, although I can’t quite see the UBP pulling off what would be a major upset.
In fact it’s hard to see the UBP being elected in the forseeable future without a black leader, as competent as Michael Dunkley or any other leader might be.The key remains what the black, professional middle class decides to do. My sense is that many of them are angry/embarrassed/fed up with Dr. Brown. But will they vote against him? Will they still vote PLP and hope Paula Cox can stage a coup? Or will they simply not vote at all rather than vote UBP?My guess is a significant number will either not vote or switch back to UBP. However I don’t believe it will be enough to tip the balance. My prediction: 20-16 PLP, maybe even as close as 19-17.
What’s your election prediction?
